Top 10 Lies about Scientology That You Don’t Know About

10. Scientology utilizes scientifically proven technology for all processes, including the Oxford Capability Analysis given to the public for free.
Any scientific study released has only disproved Scientology.  Scientology says it has its own studies but does not reveal them.  The Oxford Capability Analysis, a personality test, has no relation with Oxford University.

9. Scientology claims to have 8 million members worldwide and this number is continuing to rise.
The president of Scientology refuses to provide an accurate number and uses 8 million continuously to include anyone who has visited a Scientology office or even taken a personality test.  Many Scientology offices are closing or moving to smaller offices, which suggests the number of people is decreasing.

8. Scientology does not hold people against their will.
There are in fact dozens of allegations of false imprisonment and fraud activity.

7. Scientology claims to be compatible with other religions, including Christianity, and can be practiced by anyone.
Writings from L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology, claim that Christ is a mythical figure and a child-molester.

6. Scientology can cure diseases through prescribing vitamins and a process called “auditing.”
The US Federal government prosecuted Scientology for making health claims that are false.  Scientology can no longer make any health claims.

5. Scientology can help you get rid of psychological problems that cause the diseases that can in turn be cured by auditing.
E-meters used during auditing are like lie-detectors and results are not shown to the subject, only the auditor can determine if the subject has reacted to the stimulus given. Then, the subject is given exercises to get rid of the reaction and have improved control over his life.

4. Scientology is not a money-making business.
Scientology spends money advertising itself, pays commission to its salesmen, and spends money suing critics.  Most countries do not give scientology tax breaks because they consider it a money-making business.  Scientology leaders charge thousands of dollars for auditing sessions.

3. Scientologists are not involved in the harassment of critics, such as filing lawsuits against its critics.
Scientology has filed more lawsuits against critics in one day than most churches have in their entire history.  The way Scientologists are supposed to deal with critics is outlined by founder Ron Hubbard.

2. Scientologists are being killed by German persecutors like the Jews were during the Holocaust.
There are no reports of German persecutors killing scientologists.

1. Scientology gets the same tax break as any other religion and nothing more.
Scientology gets more tax breaks than any other religion.  Scientology classes are tax-deductible while Sunday school is not.

  1. I did a project for school and every other religion let me inside their churches in order to experience their service and interact with their people… I asked a Scientology church and got a straight out refusal…what kind of people don’t want u to know what they’re doing inside their own church? :-\ scary thought…

  2. L Ron was deeply involved with the occult back in the days he hung out with Jack Parsons, to the point of performing complex rituals to summon a “moon child”. Look up “Jack Parson Hubbard Babylon Working” and read about it for yourself. Much of their “auditing” is stolen from the Golden Dawn

  3. That could be said about just about every religion these days. Catholic church- check. fundamentalist Christians like Ted haggard, larry craig, swaggert, Benny hinn- CHECK CHECK. etc etc etc. Jesus said, take the log out of your own eye first bro. Besides, i like Travolta, he has his own jet.

  4. Why don’t we ask Lisa McPherson about the whole “being held against your will” aspect?

  5. SkinnyV says:

Why is number 4′s contradicting number 1?

    • Dorkmaster Flek says:

Because number 4 says “most” countries don’t give them tax breaks. One of the few that does is the good old USA, and there they get more tax breaks than any other religion.

    • Assumes that readers are in USA, and in USA scientology receives tax breaks. #4 states that in “most” countries (other than the reader’s country), scientology does not get tax breaks. This distinction is meant to spark discussion that tax breaks for scientology in the united states isn’t normal.

You are 9 years old, or you are someone from scientology trying to cast doubt on this article. In either of these situations, I’m painfully unimpressed with your intelligence.

    • It isn’t. Number 4 says “most countries” and as we all know, most countries are not the U.S. The main point of number 1 is that in the U.S. they do get a lot of tax breaks.

    • Skinny is not dumb. #1 is just poorly explained. The reason why #1 = true, despite #4 = true, is because Scientology has a specific tax-exemption agreement with the United States. Aside from the fact that they are granted this illogical tax exemption, they have an unparalleled ‘Religious Education’ Tax exemption clause that allows them to deduct Scientology classes (while every other religion cannot).

I’m pretty sure the original article included this, but it was probably spliced out for brevity.

    • SundayBoy says:

I’m not sure #1 is a fair comparison.
Sunday school tends to be a free service offered by the church. You don’t pay, therefore it doesn’t need to be tax deductible.

  6. Kevin Tircuit says:

So how do we know this article is true. How do we know they are not lies.

I do think Scientology is false but I’m not sure if these are all true.

    • jamie k says:

Do a little research and look into it on your own. Draw your own conclusions. I think you’ll be suprised at how messed up a lot of the stuff they do is.

  7. Yeah its pretty Effed up fake man made religion. Hindu and Christian scriptures all point to the last messenger Prophet Mohammad and thats why Islam is said to be the last and final religion which is complete. I will suggest anyone who has a will to know the truth should search for Dr. Zakir Naik’s lectures on youtube. I mean Islam is the second largest religion and the fastest growing too despite media conspiracies. Find the truth yourself

  8. I think Scientology is a scam as well – but you can’t disprove an apparent lie with an unsubstantiated allegation (I’m looking at you #8) – there are much better resources and verifiable facts about Scientology being a crock of poo than this list – this is about as authoritative as a high school report would be.

  9. Thomas Anderson says:

I especially like the lack of references, sources, and evidence. It makes this article so much more believable.

    • Hahahha I was thinking the same thing. Not that I haven’t read about most of these before, but if you’re going to straight up call someone/thing out like this it would behoove you to have sources.

    • Are you so lazy that you can’t do any research on your own? Xenu.net has a vast collection of the very references, sources, and evidence you request. These references are ex-members, investigative journalistic reports, court documents from the numerous civil suits they’ve been involved in, court documents from Operation: Snow White prosecutions, court documents from FBI raids connected to Operation: Freakout, leaked documents taken directly from Scientology offices, and early scientific examinations in the 1950s and 60s when L Ron Hubbard still tried to present his Dianetics “findings” and failed horribly at each and every turn.

There’s your sources right there. Try letting your addled brain do some work for a change, conduct some basic research, and come to a conclusion.

  10. Scientology is a religion about as much as the pope is a porn star.

  11. L. Ron Hubbard says:

    I’m really REALLLLY gay guys.

  12. Tom Cruise says:

    I’m gay for Scientology!
    …okay, I’m just gay.

  13. Um, wasn’t that book a science fiction novel that this cult is based about?

  14. $cientology is a flat out cult,as it has been proven multiple times.

  15. Seriously guys, gay is NOT a synonym for stupid. Stupid, moronic, asinine, and idiotic would all work. Gay isn’t even remotely close.

  16. All religion is a scam, wake up people.

  17. …”claim that Christ is a mythical figure and a child-molester”

He can’t be both, if he was not real then he can’t molest children. They need to pick 1 or the other.

    • Maybe he molests mythical children?

    • Either way it still proves how Scientology is not compatible with Christianity. Hubbard also claimed to be the reincarnation of the Buddha, that Mohammed invented Islam based on alien implants and that the Kabbah is but a replica of a resonating alien device left behind. I could go on, but I hope you get the point by now: Scientology lies about anything it can in order to get more customers^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^H “members” and thus structured donations into its pockets.

  18. I think they molest little boys and small farm animals.

  19. Oh, and then there’s that South Park episode which is pretty much dead-on as well. :))

  20. Christianity = Scientology + Time.
you could substitute “mormonism” for Scientology, too.

all religions are liars, it’s just that if a religion can hang in there for long enough, it starts to get credibility by default.
It’s only been about 150 years since Joseph Smith (and his 40 Federal indictments for racketeering) had his “revelation” in the woods and came up with his giant scam, the Mormon church.
150 years later, a Mormon ALMOST won the RNC nomination for PRESIDENT.

the baby’s been in the bathwater for so long it’s dead and stinking……time to throw them both out!

    • Was wondering how long till someone would bring up Mormons in this context. You seem quite emotional about this topic…The Scientologists could help you with that, or you could just take some Colace.

    • Pellidude says:

Tom, tom, tom. You poor uneducated simpleton. Once again, without proof to back up your allegations, who cares what you think? Try doing some good in the world instead of tearing things down with hatred. Maybe you will feel better about yourself.

  21. I used to live next door to a young guy who came from the midwest to join scientology. I only saw him once. They always picked him up early in the morning and dropped him off late in the evening. He always had his door, windows, and drapes closed. One day, coming home from work, I saw him sitting outside, with all the doors and windows open, drinking a bottle of booze, and we talked for the first time. He told me how they kept him sequestered, tried to brainwash him. He finally got sick of it, came to his senses and was going back home. He seemed like a great guy and I hope he stayed free. You know, he spent all that time in Hollywood and never saw any of the sights.

  22. I thought his was about Scientology, looks like you have a bone to pick with the Mormons, even if some of their ideas are backwards, they are the nicest people I know.

  23. Wow, back to 4chan with you. First, you say that Scientology gets no tax breaks in most countries, then you say they get more tax breaks. Back to high school with you.

    • clownus says:

lol wut. if you’re gonna make a comment on the author’s apparent stupidity, make sure your comment isn’t dumber than the allegation itself

    • Wow, back to preschool with you. Learn to read, the issue was discussed in the comments above yours.

Most countries give Scientology NO tax breaks. In the USA, they get better tax breaks than other religions.

  24. Sources ?

  25. arm commander says:

Scientology does not hold people against their will.

yea right held me against my will, assholes
